Work is now underway to complete the restoration of the 15th century St Mary’s Chapel which is scheduled for completion in October 2024. As a consequence, it is not going to be possible to open St Mary’s Chapel to the public this year.
This second phase of the restoration involves removing all the gypsum-based plaster and replacing it with lime-based plaster. Whilst that is happening we will take the opportunity to re-wire the Chapel, install new, more appropriate lighting and some heating. The 17th century carved wood panels, which had to be removed from the walls previously, will be reinstated.
The OpenSpace Trust is currently developing its presence on social media. A new tab is being provided on this site to allow links to Facebook, TikTok and Instagram. On these platforms we hope to provide news, updates and photographs as work progresses.
We are indebted to Aberdeen City Council for their grant support for this work.
